The 35th annual Monterey Historic Automobile Races were held at the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway August 15-17, 2008. Weekend activities, in the third year of sponsorship by Toyota, included a round of the Shell Historic Ferrari, as well as 15 race groups over the three days.
Phil Hill, the first American to win the Formula One driver’s championship, died today. He was 81. He died at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula of complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Phil is survived by his wife, Alma, son Derek, daughter Vanessa, stepdaughter Jennifer Delaney and four grandchildren.

The 6th annual Automobilia Monterey International Expo was held August 12 and 13 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Seaside, California. Organized by Tony Singer the event featured 43 vendors, including companies from the states as well as representatives from England, France, Germany, and Argentina.
Only original materials were featured; no reproductions were allowed. The Automobilia show had something for everyone: the latest books, vintage photographs, a tachometer for a Type 57 Bugatti, a factory handbook for Ferrari’s 1970 512S, a 1/10 scale Maserati 350GT hand built by Michelle Conti in 1964, an Abarth instrument panel or a J Paul Nesse sculpture, and so much more.
The Portland Historic Races , presented by the Historic Motor Sports Association, were held at PIR Raceway on July 11-13. The annual race weekend is sponsored by Baxter Auto Parts , with additional support from Carrera Motors . Nine racing groups participated, including early 1950s Porsches, Shelby Mustangs, and a 1973 Shadow DN3 CanAm car.
