Austrian driver Jochen Rindt founded the Jochen Rindt Show as a racing and sports car exhibition in 1965. In addition to his driving skill, Rindt was adept in the business of motorsport. He understood his value as a driver and the appeal of his name. Through the racing car show he brought motorsport to the fans and into the big cities. The show had stops in Munich, Belgrade and in 1968 Essen was added.
After Rindt’s death in practice for the 1970 Italian Grand Prix, his widow Nina took over the management of the show. In 1978 the name changed to the Essen Motorshow and in the decades after has grown into Europe largest. The concept of the racing car show has not changed for four decades: The show features a nearly complete grid of current Grand Prix cars, surrounded by historic vehicles, sports cars, classic automobiles, and record cars. In addition there are the tuning and accessories vendors.
